This is the second full-length 12" release from Personal Records

Have you ever quietly taken psychedelics on summer vacation at a cottage with your immediate family? Me neither, thankfully. But the ensuing dread and wonder; the juxtapositions of midsummer’s pastoral beauty with looming shadows of existential doubt, might be a fitting analogy for the debut vinyl outing from Freaky Boos.

I’m Exposed is a dense tapestry of freely improvised, tightly manipulated, highly abstract and deeply personal material. A perfect soundtrack to cracking open a cold one with the surveillance state that plays like a Saturday morning cartoons segment.

This outfit’s strength, on full display here, lies in their unique comfort at the intersection of absurdity and sincerity, comedy and horror. Incidental field recordings of band members mutate from offhand humour into unsettling collage. Organic pools of live instrumentation are lacerated and contorted by digital processes. A bald-faced long-form mantra is delivered as clichéd melodrama, leaving us contemplative and teetering in the wake of a punchline.

Much like the illuminating dissolve of a mind-altering experience, I’m Exposed sits weightily with it’s listeners afterwards, calling us to question “how much of that was me and how much was chemical?”.
