Owen Gilbride’s Personal Records debut weds two distinct creative eras.
On side A, Cardinal12 will be musically recognizable to those familiar with the artist’s unique and extensive output up to this point - lush, subdued textures rich in harmony. Side B, however, finds Owen dancing aesthetically with the ghost in the machine that is our algorithmic experience of innumerable facets of existence - disparate emotions, concepts, aesthetics, commercialism, individualism, collectivism, materialism etc - via the apparatus of the internet.

It’s the seeming lack of human reason, order or coherent relationships within this overwhelm of data that he’s mining for exactly those elements. Creating narrative out of juxtapositions, musicality out of abrupt truncations and a sense of form out of what at first appears as structural chaos. Owen has created music that asks our ears and minds to do the ordering, continuously rewarding us anew upon each listen.
